Established in Australia since 2014, the Australian team have delivered expeditions including students from over 200 schools nationwide. An agile innovative business we have developed strong partnerships to bring Australian students the best of international STEAM-skilled programs. 

Actura offers a world-class learning environment as the exclusive global partner of the CASE Space School International Study Program; and the worldwide partner delivering CASE curriculum-based robotics program – FlipRobot.

Philosophy

In today’s ever-advancing world, we are living at the speed of science.
Recognising the challenges facing young students today, Actura’s vision is to empower youth for future success. The pace of change in society over the next 20 years will outpace the change we have experienced in the last five thousand years.

  • An expected 50% of current jobs will disappear;
  • Over 50% of jobs in the next 20 years do not exist today;
  • 75% of the fastest growing occupations require STEAM-related skills.

Australian students can be at the forefront of this exciting era. These students will have an average of four careers and 17 different jobs in their lifetime. It is so important that they learn and master critical transportable skills to successfully navigate the fast-changing workforce shaped by automation, globalisation and collaboration. The constant need for new, talented people with fresh ideas is reflected in many industries where Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) play a major role in creating tomorrow’s inventions. Seven Survival Skills for the Future

It is so important that young people learn and master their Seven Survival Skills. They must successfully navigate and create the pathway for dozens of different careers, and many jobs within each career, throughout their work life. They must adapt and adjust through this constant changing landscape. They must be more that a capable job seeker, they need to become innovative job creators.

Actura empowers students through rich context based application of business management principles, including the Seven Survival Skills by Harvard Professor, Dr Tony Wagner.

From critical thinking to effective communication, right through to innovation and leadership, Australian students will be motivated to learn and absorb these skills through problem based learning.

The Seven Survival Skills

  • Critical Thinking & Problem Solving

    Critical thinking and creative problem solving are the hallmarks of the scientific process. Students can use abilities developed in science to think logically and reasonably about concepts they are learning, and to apply them to their everyday lives. Compelling, and often complex, problems are at the root of many scientific investigations.

  • Collaborative & Teamwork

    Students collaborate with peers and experts during scientific discourse and appropriately defend arguments using scientific reasoning, logic, and modeling.

  • Leadership & Responsibility

    Science requires a code of conduct that is openly and frequently discussed, with high standards for ethical responsibility around referencing the work of others, drawing conclusions based on evidence, recognising the potential for bias, avoiding political and financial influence, constructing and conducting safe investigations.

  • Initiative & Entrepreneurialism

    As the nature of science is to raise questions, science cultivates initiative and self-direction, and encourages lifelong learning. Curiosity motivates scientific thinkers to make careful observations, test theories to seek answers and develop solutions.

  • Effective Communication

    Students model the practices of research by informing others about their work, developing effective explanations, constructing and defending reasoned arguments, and responding appropriately to critical comments about their explanation.

  • Accessing & Analysing Information

    Students can articulate the importance of accurate data collection and record keeping in science, and are able to demonstrate good practices for data collection, and identify common sources of error.

  • Curiosity & Imagination

    Science is, by its nature, a creative human endeavour. Scientific and technical innovations are advanced through process building on previous knowledge and the application of theory to real world situations. Modern societal and environmental challenges require new and creative scientific and technical approaches, and investigations that are cross disciplinary.
